Hi, it's always sad to experience the end of something that meant so much. Obviously, the Hess meant a lot to you, as you went to the trouble of monitoring the Panama Canal web cam! I never knew the Hess, but I was on board the Michelson and the Dutton, two of the "triplets"! That was from 1970 to 74 when I left the Navy. Still have very fond memories of my times on board. Unforgettable. A friend and shipmate of mine put together a web site, you may know of it; www.tags-21.info. It has a lot of info on the ships, but not so much on the Hess. If you have pictures or sea stories to tell, this is the place to immortalize them! Or at least as long as the site is hosted! In any case you'll probably enjoy the site. Good luck!
This makes me sad! I served as a member of the crew from October of 1977 until I left the Navy in April 1979. I'll never forget the good times and friends I made from the west coast of the US to Hawaii to west pac and into the Bering Straits.
